Coordinating different energy flows such as green electricity, hydrogen and heat at one location in a meaningful and economical way is a challenge. For this reason, we self-developed intelligent simulation and optimisation tools to quickly and reliably offer you solutions within the framework of a feasibility study.
Based on the site-specific potential, we adapt an entire energy ecosystem with all the necessary components to your individual needs as shown schematically in the figure below. In this way, the most efficient and economical production and use of green hydrogen can be achieved.
When conducting the individual feasibility study, we first analyse your specific hydrogen and energy demands. Following this, each component is virtually represented in a high level of detail by a simulation model, also known as a Digital Twin.
Simulations of the entire Energy-Ecosystem are carried out through the individual Digital Twin model. By adjusting the components and the operating strategy, the production and demand of hydrogen and electricity can therefore be optimally coordinated.
To determine the most important key performance indicators (KPIs) as realistically as possible, we simulate at a high temporal resolution over a long operating time period. These results serve as the basis for the subsequent profitability analysis and identification of the optimal plant design for maximum economic efficiency.
From a selection of more than a thousand possible system configurations and a multitude of parameters, we find the optimal solution for your specific needs.
For this purpose, our self-developed optimisation tool uses innovative algorithms from the fields of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning.
As presented in the video, the optimisation starts with a large range of possible plant configurations. With each subsequent simulation step the uneconomical configurations are gradually sorted out. Thus, at the end of the optimisation, for example, the constellation of Agri-PV and wind power as well as hydrogen production (electrolyser power) is found, which achieves the highest economic efficiency (return on investment) of the energy ecosystem.

Optimal management of the energy ecosystem is the next important component of your project. For this purpose, we at GPSS develop a control system for the plant that is based on innovative methods of artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning and model predictive control (MPC).
These approaches make it possible to optimally use the available energy and achieve an increase in the service life of the electrolyser as the central component of the energy ecosystem. The consideration of predictive maintenance additionally increases the availability of all components.

These allow us to predict the expected electricity production over a long period of time and with a high temporal resolution. With each subsequent simulation step, the uneconomical configurations are gradually sorted out. Thus, at the end of the optimisation, the combination of Agri-PV concept and PV output with the greatest economic efficiency (return on investment) is found.
The basis for the analysis of the solar radiation on the agricultural area is provided by our light simulation, which simulates the shadow cast by the different Agri-PV concepts in a high degree of detail. This supports us during the analysis of the effect on the cultivation by the Agri-PV system.
